Introduction
A flat marker sits low to the ground, but every part of it is a decision: the approved footprint, the thickness, the finished elevation, the inscription, the foundation, and the setting method. Each must match what the cemetery allows for the exact space.
Cemetery approval comes first, and family review comes before production. This page is designed to help families prepare a marker that can be reviewed confidently and submitted according to the cemetery's actual requirements.
Cemeteries do not all share identical rules. What is permitted in one cemetery, or even one section, may not be permitted in another.
Cemetery first
Before choosing lettering or artwork, confirm the exact rules for the exact space.
Finished elevation
Finished elevation describes where the top of the marker sits relative to the surrounding grade. Some cemeteries want a marker set flush; others may allow or require a small reveal. Different sections of the same cemetery can have different requirements.
The drawing is illustrative only. It is not a universal engineering specification. The cemetery's written requirements control.
Approval authority
A Suwanee mailing address does not determine cemetery authority. Confirm each of these four roles for the exact cemetery.
01
Who owns or manages the cemetery?
02
Who approves the memorial?
03
Who controls the grave or lot rights?
04
Who is allowed to install the marker?
A cemetery may be managed under one of several models, including:
City-maintained • Private • Church-affiliated • Association-run • Family-operated • Another authority
The model for any specific cemetery should be confirmed directly, not assumed.
Why Clear Stream
Clear Stream works from Elberton, Georgia, a community with a long granite tradition widely known as the Granite Capital of the World. Granite sourcing for each order is confirmed during quoting.
Consultation → customization → digital proof → production → inspection → delivery coordination. Nothing moves to production until the family approves the proof.
The selected size, label, granite, finish, inscription, cemetery rules, foundation, and service scope must all align before an order is released.
Product options
Two client-supplied options. Pricing is provided in a written quote after the cemetery's requirements are confirmed.
PFIT, BRP, and Gray are client-supplied labels and must remain exactly as written until Clear Stream confirms their definitions.

Inscription design
Flat markers are often viewed from above or from nearby, so the layout should read clearly at a downward angle.
01
The most important identification should lead.
02
Dates and relationship should remain clear.
03
Symbols and artwork should never overpower permanent identification.
Personalization
Faith, military, occupational, floral, cultural, or personally meaningful symbols can be planned into the layout.
Use high-quality original artwork where appropriate, sized so it supports rather than competes with the name and dates.
Material board
Do not interpret PFIT, BRP, or Gray. Each specification above is confirmed by Clear Stream for the specific order.
Alternatives
A flat marker is often the right choice. If another form is being considered, it requires cemetery permission, suitable space, foundation planning, access, and a confirmed Clear Stream offering.
Local planning
Suwanee Public Works describes maintenance of city property including cemeteries. The official city historic timeline references Jackson Street Cemetery.
These facts do not establish one citywide monument rule or approval authority for every cemetery in Suwanee.

FAQ
Suwanee service is available for qualifying projects. Clear Stream is based in Elberton, Georgia, and does not operate a Suwanee office or showroom. Whether Clear Stream can set a specific marker depends on written confirmation from Clear Stream, the exact cemetery, cemetery approval, approved dimensions, foundation readiness, scheduling, equipment access, permits where applicable, weather, and site conditions.
Two client-supplied options are included: 24" x 12" x 4" - PFIT, BRP, Gray and 48" x 16" x 4" - PFIT, BRP, Gray. Either option must still be confirmed against the cemetery's written requirements for the exact section and plot.
PFIT, BRP, and Gray are client-supplied option labels. They are shown exactly as written and are not interpreted on this page as a granite color, finish, grade, or process. Clear Stream will confirm what each label means for your order before you approve a quote or proof.
Start with what the cemetery permits for the exact space. Once permission is confirmed, compare the physical footprint, the inscription you need to place, how much open space you want, foundation requirements, plot coverage, handling, and the setting route.
The larger visible field may allow more layout room, but no specific use should be assumed. Whether a marker may carry more than one name depends on the cemetery's rules, the plot rights, and the approved layout.
Cemetery requirements control. Many cemeteries require their own approval before a memorial may be placed, regardless of where it was made. Confirm the exact approval procedure, application, and fees with the cemetery in writing.
Custom lettering, symbols, and artwork can be planned as part of the design. Portraits require confirmation of the correct person, image quality, crop, contrast, image method, granite and finish compatibility, and cemetery permission. Permission is never assumed.
Yes. Clear Stream's process moves from consultation and customization to a digital design proof before production. The approved proof functions as a production authorization, not just a visual preview, so every name, date, and mark should be checked carefully.
It depends on the cemetery. Some cemeteries require a concrete foundation, a prepared setting bed, a specific elevation or border, or cemetery-controlled setting. Responsibility for the foundation and for setting must be assigned in writing before the project moves forward.
Timing is planned by milestone, not by a single date. General Clear Stream guidance is approximately two to three months for standard memorials and several months for custom work, but this is not a promise for a specific Suwanee order. Cemetery approval, proof approval, production, foundation readiness, and placement each affect the schedule. Your written quote will confirm the current planning range.
Send the legal cemetery name, operator, section, lot, and grave; the plot owner or rights holder; the cemetery's written dimensions and requirements for the exact section; the option you are considering; the names and dates you have verified; and any symbols or images that matter to the family.
